Hi! I’m Sophie,
the artist behind Scaredy Cat Studios. As a New Mexico-based artist, I think a lot about our bodily connection to the environment around us. I process the world around me by exaggerating or simplifying plant, animal, and female forms that interest me. I started Scaredy Cat Studios as an all-encompassing brand to explore these themes through murals, paintings, drawings, and prints.

My StoryHi again! My name is Sophie Rubeo, and I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I attended the University of New Mexico and received a BA in Fine Arts with a concentration in drawing, painting, and sculpture. Growing up in ABQ, I always felt a strong connection to the artistic community and knew I wanted to one day be a part of it. I was surrounded by murals, music, public artworks, and community workshops that inspired me to pursue my career in art. I now hope to do the same for others by working with local arts nonprofits such as Working Classroom and the Harwood Arts Center.
